Energy saving tips for your home – reduce your Carbon Footprint now.

- Increase natural ventilation and lighting through building design and building materials with insulating properties. Ceiling insulation with low/no VOC-properties is a must.
- Solar geysers can save you up to 40% of your energy bill. The cost is about R10 000 - R25 000 for an SABS-approved system with a 25 year guarantee and qualified for ESKOM’s rebate system.
- Make use of alternative active energy sources e.g. solar, geothermal and gas.
- Energy efficient light bulbs, such as CFL’s (compact fluorescent light bulbs) and LED’s (light emitting diode light bulbs) use about 20% of the electricity of the average incandescent light bulb and last about 6 times as long.
- Install water-saving shower heads which reduce hot-water consumption by 50 – 80%. The cost of a showerhead is between R150 and R350.
- Choose new technology appliances that are energy efficient.
- Limit standby losses from electrical equipment such as the television, DVD player and computer by switching them off at the plug. Standby power can consume 3% plus of your electricity bill.
